Dinky Mini Moke (106) from The Prisoner. The car featured as a taxi in the actual series, as seen on the number plate.
Angel Interceptor plastic kit manufactured by Airfix Toys. The plane featured in the Gerry Anderson series Captain Scarlet.
In 1968 Gerry Anderson followed the success of his previous series by creating a show called Joe 90. Joe 90 is the nine-year-old nephew of Professor Ian MacLaine, who has invented a machine nicknamed the ‘Big Rat’. The machine is capable of transferring brain waves from one person to another and the Professor perfects a process whereby the brain waves are transmitted into microchips in his nephew’s spectacles. Thus Joe can think and act like anyone from a Russian pilot to a French scientist. He is put to work as an agent for WIN (World Intelligence Network) under the guidance of special agent Sam Loover. Joe 90 had some cool gadgets, which were manufactured by the toy makers. Pedigree Dolls produced an 8-inch figure of Joe in a red plastic suit. This doll came with the special glasses and a WIN badge and is very hard to find in boxed condition. In later years, toy manufacturers released Joe 90 glasses and a briefcase containing some of Joe’s gadgets. Waddington’s produced a range of jigsaws and Dinky again got the licence for the diecast vehicles. They produced a very complicated model of Joe’s Car (number 102 – see title page) and a sleek model of Sam’s Car (number 108) in three different colours: chrome, red, and a rarer pale blue version. Century 21 Toys produced larger-scale plastic models of both Joe 90’s and Sam Loover’s cars.
